Big BWN Project and Zero Waste Brunei
supported by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) and
the Municipal Department, Ministry of Home Affairs participated in a global
movement of the Plastic Free July Campaign. It has become a platform for
public engagement to raise awareness on plastic pollution as well as to take
actions to refuse single-use plastics and be part of the campaign. The main
objective of this campaign is to create awareness to the public that there are
alternatives to using single-use plastics and to encourage the use of
reusables. In support of this campaign, the Department of Environment, Parks
and Recreation has taken the opportunity to promote the Expansion of No Plastic
Bag Everyday initiative to market stalls.
The first two locations for the Plastic
Free July and the promotion of the Expansion of No Plastic Bag Everyday
initiative were Complex Pasarneka and Tamu Tutong on 22nd July 2021 and Gerai
Perayaan Tudung Saji Kuala Belait on 24th July 2021. The campaign began with
the handing over of the No Plastic bag Everyday Initiative poster followed by the distribution of reusable bags
to customers and visitors of the marketplace. In support of Big BWN Projects
and the Plastic Free July global campaign,
companies such as Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) and Butra HeidelbergCement
Sdn Bhd have also contributed reusable bags to be distributed during the
events.
