During the 23rd February 2021
celebration for Brunei’s 37th National Day, JASTRe supported the NGO Green
Brunei in their second instalment of ‘Kempen Bandarku Bersih’ and ‘Bandarku
Bebas Botol Plastik’.
During this day, Green Brunei with
the support of their event partner, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, set
up tents with water dispensers provided by Suci Sdn Bhd, in multiple locations
in Bandar Seri Begawan. The objective of this action was to reduce the amount
of plastic bottles purchased during the event of the national day where high
numbers of the public would attend as well as to create awareness to reduce the
usage of plastic bottles and to encourage the use of reusable bottles. This is
in line with the Department’s Plastic Bottle Free Initiative that was launched
in June 2018 as well as the Green Protocol that was launched in January 2021.
Free drinks were handed out to the
public using paper cups (a better alternative compared to plastic cups) as well
as using the public's own water bottles or tumblers throughout the celebration.
Afterwards, a cleaning campaign was conducted.
