NO PLASTIC BAG EVERYDAY POSTER COMPETITION

Background

The Ministry of Development through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation launched the No Plastic Bag Weekend Initiative on 26 March 2011, where on Saturdays and Sundays participating stores no longer gave out single-use plastic carrier bags to shoppers in an effort to promote the concept of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), curb plastic pollution and inculcate sustainable habits among the society in Brunei Darussalam. Friday was then added to the initiative on 17 February 2012 to make it a complete 'green' weekend.

In 2018, the initiative was further extended to include all remaining days of the week leading to the No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative. Thursday was added in conjunction with Earth Day celebration on 19 April 2018, which fits the theme ‘End Plastic Pollution’; Wednesday was added on 11 July 2018, Tuesday on 2 October 2018 and finally Monday on 31 December 2018, leading to the No Plastic Bag Everyday by 1 January 2019.

Theme

Participants should give their own interpretation and creatively illustrate the initiative's slogan "IT TAKES A NATION TO END PLASTIC POLLUTION" to the best of their ability while still conforming to the country's ideals of the Malay Islamic Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja, MIB) philosophy.

The poster MUST contain the following phrases:

1. No Plastic Bag Everyday
2. 1st January 2019
